West Ham United would be unlikely to be able to convince Gary O’Neil to leave Wolves if they decide to sack David Moyes as manager, according to Dean Jones.
The Scotsman has come under increasing pressure at the London Stadium following the Hammers’ 6-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday (11 February) with supporters and pundits suggesting that Moyes should be sacked.
A number of names have already been linked with the position, including Graham Potter and O’Neil, but SportsLens’ Jones doesn’t believe the Wolves boss would be keen to leave Molineux despite appearing to fit the Hammers’ profile.
As quoted by Give Me Sport (14 February) he said: “I think West Ham are at a good level for Potter to go in at. I think it would probably be a pretty good fit, to be honest. So, I can see some positives around that. I think that would have also worked in a different moment for O’Neil.
“I’m not sure whether he’d leave Wolves right now. But in terms of the fit and what West Ham want to see, I can understand why they would want him to come in because he’s a young manager with signs of really understanding how the game is changing and how he can impose himself on big matches.”
Could Gary O’Neil replace David Moyes at West Ham?
Links with O’Neil make sense, considering the Wolves boss was a former Hammer while also impressing in the dugout at both Wolves and Bournemouth previously, but it doesn’t seem as though a move is likely to happen.
O’Neil has now settled at Molineux and has managed to build a strong side that is capable of challenging up the Premier League table, despite most fans writing them off as relegation candidates before a ball had even been kicked in the Premier League.

You can never say never in football and the opportunity to take over a side competing in the Europa League may be enough to tempt the Wolves boss into making the switch, but at this moment in time, such a move doesn’t appear too likely.
All of this speculation has come before Moyes has even been given his marching orders at West Ham and there is still a reasonable chance that the Hammers won’t even decide to part with the Scotsman, at least until the end of the season.
