Leicester City and Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, faces an injury setback just weeks before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Soccernet.ng.
Having been named in Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the upcoming AFCON, Ndidi’s potential absence poses a concern for the Super Eagles’ midfield dynamics.
Leicester City’s BBC correspondent, Owynn Palmer-Atkin, disclosed that Ndidi sustained an injury, raising doubts about his participation in the tournament.
Notably, Ndidi was absent during Leicester’s recent 4-1 win against Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship at the King Power Stadium, with manager Enzo Maresca confirming his injury post-match.
“Enzo Maresca tells me that Wilfred Ndidi has picked up an injury, that’s why he was absent today.
“Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are set to join up with Nigeria tomorrow, but Enzo stressed that neither are currently fit enough to play,” Palmer-Atkin shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page.

Moreover, Ndidi’s teammate Kelechi Iheanacho has also missed Leicester’s last two Championship games due to a muscular issue, initially impacting the Super Eagles’ preparations.
As AFCON 2023 approaches, the Super Eagles will initiate their training in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, starting Tuesday, amid concerns surrounding the fitness of key players like Ndidi and Iheanacho.
