Newcastle United are set to terminate Isaac Hayden’s loan spell at Standard Liege next month and find him a new club in January, sources have told Football Insider.
He is now set to join a new English club in January after several clubs in the Championship registered their interest in signing the 28-year-old midfielder on loan.
Hayden joined Standard Liege on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window, but he has struggled for form during his temporary stint.
Hayden has made just 10 appearances for Standard Liege in 2023/24 and has failed to score or assist during his time at the club.
He has not appeared in four of their last five league matches.
Having fallen out of favour in Belgium, Newcastle are eager to cut the loan short and find a new club for Hayden in the second half of the season.
Newcastle are on the lookout for a new midfield signing of their own following Sandro Tonali’s lengthy suspension for betting offences.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (26 December) that Newcastle and Juventus are the frontrunners to sign out-of-favour Man City star Kalvin Phillips next month.
Hayden has been with the Tyneside club since 2016 when he joined from boyhood club Arsenal.
He has made 171 total appearances for the Magpies, scoring seven times and assisting 10.
Hayden signed a new six-year contract at St James’ Park in 2020, but has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting lineup and has since been loaned out to Norwich City and Standard Liege.
