Four cheers as Falode congratulates Oshoala, Nnadozie, Falcons, Osimhen

The Chairperson of the Women Football Committee and a Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ms Aisha Falode, has congratulated the six-time CAF Women Footballer of the Year, Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala who on Monday, in Marakesh, Morocco, was voted as the best female player in Africa, for an unprecedented six times.

Falode, said Tuesday in Lagos that Oshoala’s sixth straight CAF Women Footballer Award affirmed that Nigeria remains the best in women’s football in Africa

She noted that, Nigeria’s victory as the Women’s National Team of the Year further confirmed this claim. The Super Falcons of Nigeria put up a world-class performance at the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Super Falcons already has the envious pedigree of being nine-time African champions and have made Nigeria the only African country that has never missed any edition of the senior Women’s World Cup since the inaugural edition in 1991.

“The Super Falcons were just unlucky at the 2022 Women’s World Cup. The team was good enough to advance to the final of the mundial,” she said.

She stressed that CAF’s choice of Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, as the Best African Women’s Goalkeeper was a decent decision that has been roundly applauded.

The former Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League called on the players and officials of the Super Falcons to keep the flag flying to ensure they win the African Cup of Nations to maintain their dominance in the continent and also qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris after a 16-year absence.

The NFF Executive Committee Member applauded the support and consistent investment of the Nigeria Football Federation led by the President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the Secretariat under Dr Muhammed Sanusi, who has been working tirelessly to give all the country’s national teams the platform to flourish.

The Super Falcons, she said, have demonstrated the strength and power in unity, diversity, and the strength of a nation.

Ms Falode also congratulated Victor Osimhen who was voted the men’s Africa Footballer of the Year. The award was last won by a Nigerian 24 years ago.
