The Ikoyi 10km road event, the fifth edition of the community marathon series, is set to be held in Ikoyi, Lagos State on October 28, 2023, Nigeria.
The road race will commence at Giwa Barracks open field by 6:30 a.m.
The Community Marathon Series (CMS) is a continuous sports initiative in which a series of 10 km and 5 km road races are held in the surrounding areas of chosen communities in Nigeria with the aim of promoting active living and fitness among the target population, creating a running community, encouraging social interaction based on common wellness objectives, and maximizing the potential of these communities through sports.
The Ikoyi 10km Road Race, with the slogan “Run to Win or Run for Fun,” has drawn support from MKH group, i-fitness and Pocari Sweat.
According to the chief organizer, Moses Nwanze, the race is still open to interested companies who may want to partner as sponsors. He also said that over 5, 000 athletes have registered for the event which includes the fun runners and the competitive runners. Athletes from all over Nigeria and outside would be participating in the Fifth edition of the community marathon series race tagged Ikoyi 10km Road Race.
Compared to the other races, which took place at FESTAC Town in Amowo Odofin, Lagos, on October 2, 2021; Lekki on January 29, 2022; Asaba on December 17, 2022; and Epe on April 29, 2023, the Ikoyi 10km Road Race is expected to be more glamorous. The official media partners are Nigeria Info, CoolFM, Wazobia FM, and MultiChoice Nigeria.
In an effort to promote fitness even more, the organisers of the Ikoyi 10km Road Race are teaming up with I-Fitness to incorporate aerobics and the waka community in a 5-kilometer fitness walk. While the race and walk are happening, spectators and bystanders will be occupied with physical activity thanks to the aerobics, which will be led by I-Fitness.
An aerobics instructor will lead the walk as a rig with a DJ and a hype MC who plays music and does fitness hypes to motivate the participants.
The open 5-kilometer road walk will welcome corporate participants from various firms, fitness enthusiasts, fitness groups, and students.
Additionally, there will be Lastma, road safety officials, and ambulances for first responders and first aid to help manage traffic throughout the walk route.
Medals and cash prizes will be awarded to winners in both the male and female categories.
