Fackson FC have qualified for the next round of the 1XBet Cup after completing their group A games on Monday at the Nitel Ground, Oshodi.
Playing in the DBI Conference on matchday 5, Capital Avalanche defeated Soccer Touch 3-1 in the first game. Emma Omini opened scoring in the third minute to give Avalanche the lead. Dare Joshua scored a brace in the 9th and 46th minute to increase the tally to 3-0. Lamin Abiodun scored the consolation goal for Soccer Touch in the 56th.
In the second game, Cheche Stars lost to Fackson FC 1-0. In the evenly contested game, Wahab Idris lost a penalty kick that would have given Fackson FC, the lead in the first half. However, in the 48th minute, Adedeji Opeyemi scored the lone goal for Fackson.
With the result, Fackson FC qualifies for the DBI Conference final with 7 points and will play the Group B winners on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Consultant and coordinator of the 1XBET Cup, Waidi Akanni, has commended the group A teams for giving a good account of themselves, noting that they have been part of the history of the 1XBet Cup, which is meant for non league players.
He also urged Fackson to prepare well for the final of the conference, as they will be taking on Group B champions in a winner-takes-all game.
He said five teams, that win the conferences, will proceed to the quarter-final, while the three best losers will also proceed to the last eight.
“The sponsors are excited with the progress the competition is making. They are equally grateful to the teams for playing by the rules of the competition and avoiding rancour,” Akanni added.
