Ramsdale’s dad calls Jamie Carragher a ‘disgrace’ over criticism

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been branded a “disgrace” – by the father of Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

The England shot-stopper endured a third straight match on the bench as the Gunners were held in the north London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

David Raya, who arrived from Brentford in the summer, had to bide his time for a starting berth but has slowly edged his way in front in the goalkeeping pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale was captured applauding his teammate after an instinctive save from the Spanish shot-stopper to deny Spurs’ Brennan Johnson.

The reaction from Ramsdale prompted a few words from Carragher in the Sky Sports studio.

He said: “I thought I was at the Oscars – you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person. I was laughing when I saw that. He’s absolutely devastated….”

The Arsenal goalkeeper’s father took umbrage with the claim from the former Liverpool defender and responded to a video clip from Sky posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has,” Nick Ramsdale replied.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has become known for his ruthless decisions for squad competition. Prior to Ramsdale’s move to the capital, Bernd Leno has cemented his place as the Gunners number one.

While Ramsdale was forced to sit out of the starting 11 during his early career, he soon usurped the German to become the first name on the teamsheet.

There have been questions surrounding when Ramsdale’s place in the line-up will be sacrificed for the former Brentford man, which began at Goodison Park against Everton on September 17.

“I understand [his frustration] and it’s very difficult for every player,” Arteta described in his pre-Tottenham press conference.
