Lagos
There was plenty of action and world-class entertainment last Saturday as one of the country’s leading leisure clubs, Lagos Country Club, hosted Benin Club for the finale of the first Interclub Sports Festival of 2023, organized to strengthen relations between the two to consolidate clubs.
The event, which began on Thursday and ended on Saturday, was attended by over 100 members of the Benin Club led by its President Henry Omoregie Esq and Vice President Dr. Evabziegbere Isibor and members of the sports sections of the club.
President of Lagos Country Club, Seyi Adewumi, at the entertaining event, said the championship, which coincided with his first 100 days in office, was organized for members to relax, interact, have fun, burn calories and socialize.
He explained that the club will always sponsor many similar events in the future.
According to him, as part of strengthening relations between the two clubs, the Lagos Country Club will soon pay a return visit to the Benin club, while the arrangement is also on to visit a sports club in Ghana as a way of building relationship among clubs in the West African sub-region.
“I am delighted that this tournament coincides with my first 100 days in office and we hope to organize other similar club competitions in the future.
“My advice is that similar clubs should emulate the activities of the Lagos Country Club and engage in inter-club visits as this helps build bridges of friendship,” he said.
Also in separate interviews, the president of the Beninese club and its vice president expressed their joy at the sportsmanship that exists in the teams and congratulated the host on his hospitality.
“The members of the Benin Club are satisfied with the hospitality of our guests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the hospitality we were offered and look forward to continuing it during the return visit to Benin,” he said.
