The Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku has canvassed for more Tournaments in the game of Badminton for optimum development in Nigeria.

Aiyepeku made the statement while talking to the media at the grand finals of the 6th edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics, held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

He said, “we have reignited competitions, and we would give our young players the chances to get better. We need more of these championships at the local, state and even beyond regional level that will improve their capabilities and help them compete favourably at international level.

As you can see in the final round no Nigerian made it. we need to bring them together and if we don’t have competitions we cannot get better”, said Aiyepeku.

Brazilian Jonathan Mathias emerged as men’s champion in a sold-out crowd after an intense face-off with a Spaniard Pablo Abian 2-0 (21-18,21-19).

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles Ines Lucia Castillo Salazar (Peru) defeated an American Lauren Lam to cart home a gold medal.
