Barca board divided over choice of signing Man City star
Barcelona are divided on whether to try and sign Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo this summer, according to The Athletic.
The 29-year-old had an unremarkable loan spell at Bayern Munich in the latter half of last season following a fallout with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
He has not featured in the club’s plans so far this season and Barcelona are interested in taking him to the Nou Camp in the ongoing transfer window.
However, Manchester City are yet to be approached by Barcelona or the player’s camp regarding a potential move to Catalunya this summer.
And it has been claimed that there is a difference of opinion between Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez and new sporting director Deco on the prospect of signing Cancelo.
The Barcelona coach is in favour of getting the Manchester City defender because of his experience and the fact that he would slot straight into the line-up.
However, Deco is in favour of signing Real Valladolid’s 18-year-old right-back Ivan Fresneda this summer.
The sporting director believes it is a good chance to snap up a highly regarded talent for a reasonable fee given Valladolid got relegated from La Liga last season.
Barcelona are also looking at trying to sign Cancelo on an initial loan while Manchester City are determined to sell him with a few clubs in Saudi Arabia also interested in him.
