$100 million salary: Neymar Jr. joins Saudi football club Al Hilal
One of the top football players of all time, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, known as Neymar Jr. has signed with the Saudi Pro League (SPL) team, Al Hilal.
The Brazilian footballer successfully finalized his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Al Hilal, capping a turbulent six-year stay at the French club.
Al Hilal and PSG settled on a transfer fee of reportedly 90 million euros ($98 million). The league, supported by the oil-rich state, would set a record with this sum as part of its spending binge on elite football personnel.
Approximately half of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s rumoured yearly wage, Neymar has been presented with a two-year deal that is estimated to pay the 31-year-old Brazilian star an annual salary of roughly $100 million.
According to reports, the player’s additional perks will consist of a personal jet at his service constantly, a large mansion with a team of committed employees, earn €80,000 as a bonus for each win, and be rewarded with a mind-boggling €500,000 for each social media post or story he shares endorsing Saudi Arabia.
PSG onboarded Neymar from FC Barcelona in 2017 for a then-record 222 million euros ($242 million). Throughout his six seasons, he scored 118 goals in 173 games.
Neymar won three French Cups and five Ligue 1 championships for the French club, however, he was on the losing end of UEFA Champions League‘s final against Bayern Munich in 2020.
