£6billion Man Utd takeover: Fear grips Glazers over decision to sell club

The sale of Manchester United is in doubt as it’s feared the Glazers won’t sell up, according to reports.

It’s been eight months since United’s current owners announced they were welcoming offers for the club, which was followed by a drawn-out process resulting in two main contenders.

Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim and Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe have battled through three rounds of bidding, and it seemed the former had won out after he made an improved fourth offer.

But now the Daily Mail claim it could be the case that neither the Sheikh nor Ratcliffe takes the reins from the highly unpopular Glazer family.

There’s said to be concerns from those involved over the Americans’ future intentions as the £6billion asking price they set hasn’t been met. Offers from both interested parties have peaked at the £5bn mark.

And for that reason there’s a belief amongst some that the process could be put on pause until later this year. Regardless of that, the Glazers will definitely still be at the helm come the start of the Premier League season.

It was initially hoped the situation could be resolved before the summer transfer window kicked into gear, with a winning bidder expected to have been named in mid-June.

But that date has been and gone and there’s no longer enough time to complete a takeover before Erik ten Hag’s side face Wolves at Old Trafford on August 14 in a little over three weeks’ time.

The report adds a lift on the ban of owning multiple clubs in the same competition, which has been mooted, could bring more bidders to the table in the future – meaning the Glazers may sit tight until that increase in demand.
