Inter President Shuts Down Barcelona Rumours As Alessandro Bastoni ‘Happy To Stay’
Inter Deliver Firm Response Over Bastoni Future
Alessandro Bastoni will not be leaving Inter Milan anytime soon — at least according to club president Giuseppe Marotta.
The experienced executive has firmly dismissed growing speculation linking the Italy international with a move to FC Barcelona, insisting the defender remains completely committed to the Nerazzurri project.
Bastoni has emerged as one of Europe’s elite centre-backs in recent years, making him a natural target for several top clubs across the continent.
Marotta Makes Inter’s Position Crystal Clear
Speaking to DAZN, Marotta made it abundantly clear that Inter are under no pressure to sell their star defender.
The president explained that the club’s policy is not based around cashing in on elite players unless they actively push for an exit.
And according to Marotta, Bastoni has done the exact opposite.
He said:
“Bastoni has absolutely not expressed his desire to leave. He’s happy to stay here with us.”
Marotta also suggested the defender could remain at San Siro for many years to come, underlining just how highly Inter value him internally.
Bastoni Seen As One Of Inter’s Untouchables
Inside the club, Bastoni is viewed as a cornerstone of Inter’s long-term future.
The Italian defender has become one of the defining faces of the team’s recent success, helping the club secure major domestic honours while also establishing themselves as a force in European competition.
Marotta specifically highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong leadership core within the dressing room.
Alongside Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez, Bastoni is considered one of the key figures responsible for preserving the club’s winning culture.
Barcelona Continue Defensive Search
Barcelona’s interest in Bastoni comes as the Spanish giants continue searching for elite defensive reinforcements capable of leading the club into a new era.
The Italy international’s composure in possession, tactical intelligence and left-footed balance make him an ideal modern centre-back for possession-heavy systems.
However, Inter’s stance suggests any potential move would be extremely difficult — and incredibly expensive.
With Bastoni still firmly under contract and fully invested in the project, Barcelona may ultimately need to turn their attention elsewhere.
Cristian Chivu Also Set For Reward
Marotta also confirmed that head coach Cristian Chivu is close to signing a new contract after an exceptional first season in charge.
The former Inter defender guided the club to both the Serie A title and Coppa Italia success, quickly establishing himself as one of Italy’s most highly-rated young managers.
Marotta described the extension as a formality and praised Chivu’s rapid development on the touchline.
Stability Becoming Inter’s Biggest Strength
At a time when many European giants are undergoing major rebuilds, Inter appear determined to maintain continuity.
Keeping leaders like Bastoni, Barella and Lautaro together is viewed internally as essential for sustaining success over the coming years.
And judging by Marotta’s latest comments, the club have absolutely no intention of breaking apart the spine of their title-winning side.
For Barcelona and any other interested clubs, the message from Inter is simple: Bastoni is not going anywhere.
