Inter Reacts To Lautaro Martinez Injury Update Ahead Barcelona Clash
Inter say Lautaro Martinez has suffered an injury in the flexor muscles in his left thigh, so his condition will continue to be reviewed day by day.
Inter star Lautaro remains highly likely to miss Tuesday’s Champions League second leg semifinal against Barcelona as the Nerazzurri confirmed the nature of their striker’s injury on Friday.
“Lautaro Martinez had various clinical and instrumental examinations this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano,” the Nerazzurri said.
“It was found that the Argentine forward has an elongation of the flexor muscles in his left thigh. His conditions will continue to be reviewed day by day.”
According to Sky Sport Italia, it usually takes one week to recover from this sort of injury. Therefore, it is pretty unlikely that the Argentine will recover in time for the next game against Barcelona.
The best-case scenario would see him go to the bench against the Catalans on Tuesday night.
Lautaro Martinez picked up his latest injury during the first half of the first leg semifinal in Barcelona earlier this week.
Inter return to the pitch on Saturday, hosting Hellas Verona at San Siro in Serie A Round 35.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi didn’t seem optimistic about Lautaro Martinez’s chances to recover for the second leg semifinal.
“He felt a twinge, but had been playing eight games in a row,” the Nerazzurri boss said after the game in Barcelona.
“Unfortunately, we had these little issues, as I didn’t have Thuram, Taremi was also coming off an injury, and I wasn’t able to rotate. When you start eight matches in a row, there is the risk of injury. I hope it’s nothing too serious, but I do have a few doubts.”
The Inter captain has scored 21 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions this season.
