Man Utd confirm Rasmus Hojlund exit as striker completes permanent Napoli transfer

Manchester United have officially announced the permanent departure of Rasmus Hojlund, with the Danish striker joining Napoli after a successful loan spell in Italy.

The 23-year-old spent the 2025-26 campaign at the Serie A side and will now continue his career in Naples after contractual conditions triggered a permanent transfer.

United bid farewell to Hojlund

The Red Devils confirmed the move on their official channels, bringing an end to Hojlund’s three-year spell at Old Trafford.

In a brief farewell statement, the club said: “Everyone at the club would like to wish Rasmus all the very best for the future.”

Hojlund originally arrived from Atalanta in 2023 amid significant expectations and went on to make 95 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals across all competitions.

He also collected silverware during his time in Manchester, featuring in the club’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City in 2024.

Champions League qualification activated deal

The striker’s permanent switch was automatically triggered by an obligation-to-buy clause included in last summer’s loan agreement.

Under the terms of the deal, Napoli were required to sign Hojlund permanently if they secured qualification for the Champions League.

That condition was met when the Italian side sealed a top-four finish in Serie A following a decisive 3-0 victory over Pisa. Hojlund played a key role in the match, registering both a goal and an assist.

The transfer is reported to be worth around £38 million, providing United with additional funds as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.

Career revived in Italy

After struggling to consistently find his best form in England, Hojlund rediscovered confidence and rhythm back in Serie A.

The Denmark international finished the season as Napoli’s leading scorer with 16 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.

His contributions helped Napoli secure a runners-up finish in the league while also lifting the Supercoppa Italiana, establishing himself as one of the club’s most important attacking players.

Emotional farewell to Manchester United

When the permanent move was effectively secured earlier in the season, Hojlund shared an emotional message with Manchester United supporters.

Reflecting on his time at Old Trafford, he wrote: “To say goodbye to Manchester United feels emotional. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey.”

He also thanked the club’s supporters for helping him through difficult moments.

“The way you fans supported me, made me feel at home and helped me find my confidence again is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”

Looking ahead to the next chapter of his career, Hojlund added: “It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them.”

What next for Manchester United?

With Hojlund’s departure now completed, United are expected to intensify their search for attacking reinforcements this summer.

Reports continue to link the club with several high-profile forwards, including RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a return to Champions League football.
