Manchester City gave Pep Guardiola a farewell worthy of a football legend as thousands of fans, former players, and global sporting icons came together to celebrate the end of his historic era at the Etihad Stadium.
The emotional send-off became one of the biggest football celebrations of the year, with NBA legend Michael Jordan leading a series of heartfelt tributes to the departing Manchester City manager.
After ten unforgettable years in Manchester, Guardiola officially closes the chapter on a reign that delivered an astonishing 20 major trophies and completely transformed the club into a global football powerhouse.
An incredible 19,000 supporters packed into the Co-Op Live arena following Manchester City’s open-top bus parade through the streets of Manchester.
The event celebrated the achievements of the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, but the spotlight was firmly on Guardiola as fans honoured the man who changed the club forever.
Club legends including Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho joined the celebrations, helping showcase the mountain of silverware won during Guardiola’s extraordinary decade in charge.
The atmosphere quickly turned emotional as fans reflected on one of the most successful managerial eras football has ever seen.
One of the biggest surprises of the night came when basketball icon Michael Jordan appeared via video message to personally congratulate Guardiola.
The NBA legend praised Guardiola’s remarkable career and wished him well for life after football management.
Jordan said:
“I just wanted to congratulate you on an unbelievable career. Enjoy your retirement. Good luck on the links and keep them straight. Congratulations.”
The tribute instantly sent social media into meltdown, with fans stunned to see one sporting icon salute another on such a massive stage.
Jordan was not the only famous figure to honour the departing City boss.
Professional golfer Tommy Fleetwood described Guardiola as both an inspiration and a friend.
“You deserve whatever you are about to do next,” Fleetwood said.
“It is an honour to call you a friend and congratulations. You have been amazing.”
Veteran football manager Neil Warnock also delivered a memorable message, calling Guardiola the greatest coach he has ever seen.
“I have seen off so many managers but you are top of the pile,” Warnock admitted.
“The best manager I have ever seen.”
The farewell celebration also included surprise appearances from former captain Vincent Kompany and Jack Grealish, while women’s star Khadija Shaw thrilled fans by announcing a new four-year contract with the club.
But the most emotional moment arrived when Guardiola addressed the crowd one final time alongside Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.
Fighting back tears, the Spaniard thanked the Manchester City supporters for standing by him throughout his unforgettable journey.
“Thank you so much for coming tonight to say bye,” Guardiola said.
“For the rest of my life, I will have you in my heart.”
It was the perfect ending to one of the greatest managerial stories football has ever witnessed.
