Troy Deeney Ranks Victor Osimhen Among World Football’s Top Five Strikers

When strikers talk about strikers, the football world listens.

Former Watford F.C. captain Troy Deeney has placed Victor Osimhen firmly among the top five strikers in world football — and he didn’t mince his words.

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Deeney described Osimhen as the type of forward every league would love to have.

And honestly? It’s hard to argue.

Big Moment, Big Recognition

Osimhen’s latest praise comes after another clutch European night. The Nigerian forward was nominated for UEFA Champions League Player of the Week following his extra-time goal that helped Galatasaray S.K. secure qualification against Juventus F.C. in a dramatic playoff clash.

Despite a 3-2 loss in the second leg, Galatasaray advanced 7-5 on aggregate — and Osimhen delivered when it mattered most.

That’s what elite strikers do.

“Every League Would Want Him”

Deeney’s breakdown of Osimhen was detailed and honest:

“Every league would want him; he’s physical, he’s strong and rough around the edges.”

He acknowledged that Osimhen may not have the polished, silky aesthetic of players like Harry Kane, but stressed that effectiveness matters more than elegance.

“He doesn’t look the silkiest… he’s not the Harry Kane type of striker.”

But here’s the key:

“Technically, he’s very good. He’ll bash you about; he can link the play, run in behind, and he scores goals — which is the most important thing.”

That combination of physical dominance, tactical intelligence, and finishing instinct is exactly why Osimhen remains one of Europe’s most feared forwards.

The Transfer Question

Deeney also touched on the elephant in the room — why hasn’t Osimhen made another blockbuster move?

According to him, finances are a major factor.

“A lot of why he hasn’t moved on has been financial. The value is always going to be high.”

In today’s market, elite strikers come with elite price tags. And when you’re considered one of the top five in the world, negotiation tables become serious boardroom battles.

Osimhen’s Global Stock Is Rising

From leading the line in Serie A to shining on European nights, Osimhen continues to strengthen his brand as a complete modern striker:

  • Physical presence

  • Aerial threat

  • High pressing intensity

  • Clinical finishing

  • Big-game mentality

The conversation is no longer about whether he’s elite. It’s about where he ranks among the elite.

And if Troy Deeney’s assessment is anything to go by, the Nigerian superstar is already sitting at football’s top table.
