Lamine Yamal Reacts After Substitution During Barcelona vs Levante Match
Hansi Flick has revealed that Lamine Yamal was frustrated with himself — not the coach — after being substituted late in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Levante.
The teenager’s visible displeasure as he left the pitch in the 88th minute quickly drew attention, but Flick clarified that the reaction came from personal disappointment rather than tactical disagreement.
Barcelona controlled the match from start to finish, reclaiming top spot in LaLiga with a comfortable win built entirely by midfield contributions.
Goals from Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong and Fermín López sealed the result, while the attacking trio of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Yamal struggled to impose themselves.
When Yamal was replaced by Roony Bardghji with only minutes remaining, his reaction was clear — head down, visibly upset.
Flick explained afterward:
“It’s normal, he was angry with his performance. For me, the most important thing is that we won today, and we also have players who deserve to play.”
Flick used the moment to highlight Barcelona’s internal competition and standards, praising Bardghji’s professionalism and training intensity.
The coach emphasized that opportunities are earned — and that strong reactions from players show ambition rather than disunity.
“Roony is training very well. He’s a professional in every sense. When he came on, it was good to see his reaction, and that’s what we want to focus on,” Flick added.
For Barcelona, the bigger picture remains overwhelmingly positive:
Return to top of LaLiga
Squad depth producing goals
Young stars demanding more of themselves
Yamal’s frustration, in this context, reflects the mentality Barcelona want — a teenager already holding himself to elite standards inside one of world football’s most demanding environments.
