Chelsea Suffer Injury Blow As Marc Cucurella Faces Hamstring Concern

Chelsea have been dealt a potential injury setback after Marc Cucurella was forced off during their 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

Blues boss Liam Rosenior confirmed post-match that the Spanish left-back felt discomfort in his hamstring at half-time, prompting an enforced substitution.

With key fixtures looming, Chelsea now face an anxious wait.

Rosenior Confirms Hamstring Issue

Cucurella did not emerge for the second half on Tuesday night, with Jorrel Hato introduced in his place — a move that initially puzzled supporters as there had been no obvious sign of injury.

Rosenior clarified the situation after the match:

“Unfortunately, at half-time, he felt his hamstring.
It wasn’t a tactical change. It was enforced, and Cucu’s been top, and hopefully he’ll be O.K.”

He added:

“We’ll scan him and make sure we find out if he’s available for the next game.”

The absence of a visible in-game incident offers some hope that the problem may be precautionary rather than serious.

Arsenal Clash In Focus

Chelsea’s upcoming schedule provides mixed news.

Next up is an FA Cup fourth-round tie away to Hull City, a fixture Cucurella may have been rested for regardless. However, the bigger concern is the looming showdown with Arsenal, where his experience and defensive stability would be crucial.

An eight-day gap after the FA Cup match could prove vital if the injury is minor.

The Blues then host Burnley, currently 19th in the table, in a game they would be expected to control even without their first-choice left-back.

Why Cucurella Matters

Cucurella has been a key component in Chelsea’s defensive structure this season:

  • Reliable in one-on-one duels

  • High pressing intensity

  • Consistent ball progression from wide areas

  • Tactical flexibility in build-up phases

Losing him for a prolonged spell would disrupt balance on the left flank — particularly in high-intensity matches against top opposition.

A Nervous Wait For Chelsea

Hamstring injuries can vary widely in severity. While some resolve within days, others can sideline players for weeks.

For now, Chelsea supporters and coaching staff alike will await scan results before assessing the full impact.

With crucial domestic fixtures ahead, Rosenior will be hoping this setback proves to be only a minor scare — not a major disruption.
