John Terry Trolls Arsenal As Chelsea’s Iconic Defensive Record Survives Another Season

Former Chelsea captain John Terry wasted no time rubbing salt into Arsenal’s wounds after the Gunners officially failed to surpass Chelsea’s legendary 2004–05 Premier League defensive record.

Arsenal’s hopes were dashed following a dramatic 3–2 defeat to Manchester United, a result that pushed Mikel Arteta’s side to 17 goals conceded this season. That single statistic was enough to confirm that Chelsea’s long-standing benchmark of 15 goals conceded in an entire league campaign remains untouched.

“The Record Is Safe” – Terry Enjoys The Moment

As soon as Arsenal’s record chase collapsed, Terry took to social media in celebratory mood.

“The record is safe for another year,” the Chelsea legend posted, before doubling down with a video message that quickly went viral.

Timestamping the moment, Terry said:

“January 25th, 2026 and the record is safe. Man United 2, Arsenal 1. Still 25 minutes to go but the record is safe for another season.
So Petr Cech, Paolo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, William Gallas – it’s time to celebrate with a bottle or a glass of red wine. I’m going for the bottle for celebration tonight.”

Terry didn’t stop there. He went on to question whether the record would ever be broken:

“Can this record of 15 goals conceded in one season ever be beaten? I’m saying no.
I have to say I was a little bit worried the way Arsenal started the season, but it’s only January and the record has already gone. I still get frustrated today – it could have been sub-10.”

Classic JT. No mercy.

How Arsenal’s Record Dream Fell Apart

For a while, Arsenal genuinely looked capable of doing the impossible. After eight league games, they had conceded just three goals, sparking talk of a historic defensive season.

But football has a way of humbling even the most disciplined teams.

A series of defensive lapses over the following months saw the Gunners ship goals at an increasing rate. After 23 matches, their total now stands at 17 conceded, officially ruling them out of equaling Chelsea’s iconic achievement.

Manchester United Deliver The Final Blow

The decisive moment came at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal took the lead through a Lisandro Martínez own goal, but United responded in style. Bryan Mbeumo brought the visitors level, Patrick Dorgu fired United ahead, and Matheus Cunha capped the comeback with a stunning late strike to seal a 3–2 victory.

That defeat didn’t just end Arsenal’s defensive record chase — it also dealt a serious blow to their Premier League title ambitions.

Chelsea’s 2004–05 Defense Still Stands Alone

Twenty years on, Chelsea’s defensive unit of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, William Gallas, and Paulo Ferreira continues to set a standard many believe may never be matched.

For Arsenal fans, it’s another painful reminder of how fine the margins are in elite football. For John Terry? Just another excuse to pop the cork and remind rivals who still owns one of the Premier League’s most untouchable records.
