Super Eagles players celebrating on the pitch after AFCON 2025
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are on the rise.
The senior national team jumped 12 places in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving from 36th to 26th globally, according to OwnGoalNigeria.com. This marks a significant boost for the team after an impressive showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In Africa, only Morocco (8th in the world) and Senegal (12th) are ranked higher than Nigeria. Algeria and Egypt, both defeated by the Super Eagles during the tournament — including Egypt in the third-place playoff — complete the African top five.
Despite a heart-breaking semi-final exit to Morocco on penalties, Nigeria’s overall performance was outstanding. The team won six of their seven matches, including convincing victories over highly ranked Tunisia in the group stage and Algeria in the quarter-finals.
This rise in the FIFA rankings highlights the Super Eagles’ growing consistency and competitiveness on the continental and global stage. Fans will be eager to see how the team builds on this momentum in upcoming World Cup qualifiers and international fixtures.
