Endrick celebrating his debut goal for Lyon in the Coupe de France
Brazilian wonderkid Endrick may not be in France for as long as Lyon fans hoped. Despite only joining the Ligue 1 side at the start of the January transfer window, new revelations suggest the teenage forward could be recalled by parent club Real Madrid within days.
The sudden sacking of Xabi Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu has altered the landscape entirely, with clean slates now on offer for several fringe players — including the 19-year-old Brazilian starlet.
Endrick’s first months in Spain were far from ideal. After Alonso took charge of Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, the young forward found opportunities hard to come by.
He made just four appearances across all competitions, with injuries stalling his momentum. Matters worsened when he was sent off in a La Liga clash against Celta Vigo on December 7 — a game that ultimately became his final appearance for the club before his loan move.
To compound matters, Endrick has not scored for Real Madrid since April 1, 2025, highlighting how little rhythm he was able to build during Alonso’s reign.
A temporary exit had been discussed for months, with Premier League and European clubs circling. Lyon eventually won the race, securing Endrick on a six-month loan until the end of the 2025–26 season.
The move could not have started better.
On his debut in the Coupe de France against Lille, Endrick announced himself in style. He struck the post inside five minutes before opening his account just before half-time with a superb left-footed volley. His overall performance drew praise, with Real Madrid closely monitoring his progress from afar.
Lyon, desperate for attacking inspiration, believe Endrick could be the spark they need for the rest of the campaign.
Real Madrid’s decision to part ways with Xabi Alonso — less than 24 hours after their Super Cup final defeat to Barcelona — has reopened internal discussions. With Alvaro Arbeloa currently acting as caretaker manager, several players may get a second look.
Crucially, Real Madrid inserted a recall clause into Endrick’s loan deal. That clause remains valid until January 20, meaning Los Blancos have only a short window to act if they want him back immediately.
Despite the speculation, a return to Madrid this month appears unlikely.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that while the clause exists, Real Madrid have no plans to activate it. Speaking on social media and DAZN Espana, he stated:
“Real Madrid have re-call clause for Endrick deal at Olympique Lyon but no plans to activate it following Xabi Alonso out. Clause only valid until January 20. Real very happy with Endrick start at OL and player very happy after debut goal.”

With regular game time crucial for Endrick’s development, both the player and Real Madrid seem content to let him continue his growth in France — at least for now. However, the mere existence of the recall clause ensures his future will remain under close watch.
If Lyon continue to unlock his potential, Madrid may yet reap the rewards later in the year.
