Alex Iwobi in action for Nigeria during AFCON 2025 in Morocco
As the tension rises ahead of the AFCON 2025 semi-final, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has openly described host nation Morocco as “scary”, setting the tone for what promises to be a blockbuster encounter in Rabat this Wednesday.
Nigeria and Morocco, two of Africa’s footballing heavyweights, will lock horns with a place in the AFCON final on the line. While confidence is high in the Nigerian camp, respect for the hosts is even higher.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alexander Yaa Digg, the Fulham star did not hold back in his assessment of the Atlas Lions.
After watching Morocco’s composed 2-0 victory over five-time champions Cameroon, Iwobi admitted the performance caught the Super Eagles’ attention.
“Just seeing Morocco beat Cameroon, Morocco looking decent, looking scary, but still hopeful we can meet them next round,” Iwobi said.
“We have to believe, so we can achieve. Our team is good.”
It was a statement that perfectly captured the mood in the Nigerian camp — cautious, but confident.
Nigeria booked their semi-final spot with a commanding 2-0 win over Algeria, courtesy of second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. Many observers have described it as Nigeria’s most complete performance of AFCON 2025 so far.
Under Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles have been ruthless, becoming the only team with a 100% record in the tournament. They also boast the most feared attack in the competition, with pace, power, and precision causing constant problems for opposition defenses.
Iwobi himself has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers, pulling strings in midfield and earning praise as one of the tournament’s top creators.

Morocco, meanwhile, have turned home advantage into a serious weapon. Backed by a passionate crowd in Rabat, the Atlas Lions have been disciplined, clinical, and extremely difficult to break down.
Their confidence will be sky-high, knowing they are just two wins away from lifting the trophy on home soil.
Wednesday’s semi-final is shaping up to be a classic — Nigeria’s fearless attacking flair versus Morocco’s structured, home-backed resilience. For Iwobi and the Super Eagles, belief remains the driving force.
“We have to believe, so we can achieve,” he said — a mantra that could define Nigeria’s AFCON journey.
One thing is certain: Africa will be watching.
