CAF Launches Formal Investigation Into Alleged Misconduct During AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals
CAF Opens Investigation Into Controversial AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a formal investigation into alleged misconduct during the AFCON 2025 quarter-final matches, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to unprofessional behaviour in its competitions.
In a statement released on Sunday, CAF confirmed that it is reviewing incidents from two high-profile fixtures: hosts Morocco vs Cameroon and Nigeria vs Algeria. Preliminary findings, based on match officials’ reports and video footage, suggest potential misconduct involving players and officials during these games.
“The CAF Disciplinary Board will conduct a thorough investigation, and appropriate action will be taken should any individual be found guilty of wrongdoing,” the statement read.
Scope of the Investigation
CAF’s probe goes beyond on-field incidents. Separate video evidence relating to alleged misbehaviour by members of the media in the mixed zone—designated for controlled post-match interactions—is also under review.
The continental governing body reiterated its zero-tolerance stance:
“CAF will not hesitate to impose sanctions on any individual whose actions fall below the standards of professionalism and respect expected at CAF competitions.”
