Moses Simon celebrating with Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during AFCON 2025
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has hailed Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman as the two best players on the African continent, but he made it clear that team unity and collective success are what really matter for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Nigeria’s quarter-final clash with Algeria, Simon addressed ongoing debates about the influence of Osimhen and Lookman within the Super Eagles squad.
Rather than getting caught up in comparisons or individual accolades, Simon delivered a message of togetherness and ambition.
“Yes, we play for them, they’re the two best players in the African continent,” Simon said. “There is no time for who is the best or not the best, we are the best, and we just want to win.”
His comments underline the squad’s focus on collective achievement rather than individual brilliance.
The Super Eagles have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far. They won all three of their group-stage matches, scoring eight goals while conceding just three. Their momentum continued in the round of 16 with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique.
With Osimhen and Lookman firing on all cylinders, Nigeria heads into the quarter-finals full of confidence. Simon’s remarks reinforce that, while star power grabs headlines, teamwork and unity remain the keys to AFCON glory.
As the Super Eagles prepare to face Algeria in Marrakech, Simon’s call for cohesion could prove decisive in Nigeria’s quest to lift the trophy and make history once again.
