Chidozie Awaziem Ready For Any Role As Super Eagles Chase AFCON 2025 Glory

As the Super Eagles of Nigeria gear up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, one thing is clear: Chidozie Awaziem is coming with an open mind, strong boots, and a team-first mentality.

The Nantes defender has made it clear that when it comes to representing Nigeria, position debates don’t matter. What matters is results.

Awaziem Embraces Versatility For Nigeria

Ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign, Chidozie Awaziem spoke about his readiness to adapt to any tactical demand from the coaching crew.

Although naturally a centre-back, the 28-year-old has built a reputation for flexibility, having played across the defensive line for both club and country. That versatility, according to Awaziem, is not accidental—it’s intentional.

Speaking to Elegbete TV, he explained:

“For me, I’ve played different positions at the back. It depends on the structure of the coach. It depends on where the coach wants me to perform. I just go there and try to do the job as best as I can.”

This mindset makes Awaziem one of the most dependable options in the Super Eagles squad, especially during tournaments where injuries, suspensions, and tactical tweaks are inevitable.

‘If He Wants Me To Be A Striker, I’m Ready’

Awaziem took his commitment a step further with a statement that has quickly caught fans’ attention.

“If the coach wants me to be a goalkeeper, I’m ready. If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready.”

While said with a touch of humour, the message was clear: personal comfort comes second to national success. It’s the kind of attitude every tournament-winning squad needs.

Still, Awaziem was honest about where he feels most effective:

“My preferred position right now, as I’m speaking to you, I’m a centre-back. I would prefer to remain in my position.”

That balance between humility and confidence could be crucial as Nigeria navigates a tricky group.

AFCON 2025: A Big Test For The Super Eagles

Nigeria will begin their AFCON 2025 journey against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, before facing Tunisia and Uganda in Group C.

With pressure mounting after finishing runners-up at the last edition, players like Awaziem—disciplined, versatile, and mentally prepared—could make the difference between another near-miss and continental glory.

One thing is certain: wherever Chidozie Awaziem is asked to play, he’ll be ready.
