Enzo Maresca Faces Criticism Over ‘Mismanaging Estevao Willian’ As Brazilian Compared To Gareth Bale

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is under growing scrutiny for his handling of teenage sensation Estevao Willian, with claims the Brazilian starlet is being mismanaged through stop-start appearances. Former Brazil and Tottenham midfielder Sandro has voiced concerns, arguing that Chelsea risk stalling a rare talent whose potential he likened to Gareth Bale’s early career in north London.

Maresca’s Management Of Estevao In The Spotlight

Since joining Chelsea from Palmeiras in the summer, the 18-year-old winger has impressed in flashes but has struggled to secure a consistent starting spot. Short cameos, rotation, and periods outside the matchday squad have characterized Estevao’s season, frustrating observers who believe he has already demonstrated enough quality to warrant regular involvement.

Sandro Draws Gareth Bale Comparison

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, Sandro didn’t mince words. “Enzo Maresca is mismanaging Estevao at Chelsea with his stop-start appearances,” he said. He elaborated:

I don’t agree with how Enzo Maresca is managing Estevao. You have an amazing player in Estevao. He has a good moment and then you stop playing him. He should be playing every game he can.

Sandro compared the situation to Bale’s early days at Tottenham, highlighting the importance of continuous game time for young stars:

Gareth Bale played every game for us at Tottenham. You have to enjoy these players and these moments. There are ups and downs but come on, you stand the player down and his confidence will go away.

The Case For Regular Minutes

Estevao arrived at Stamford Bridge amid huge expectations as one of Brazil’s brightest prospects. His pace, close control, and attacking flair have already made him a fan favourite. However, Maresca’s cautious approach—prioritising experience and tactical discipline—has limited the teenager’s rhythm, leaving critics worried that it may hinder his development rather than protect him.

Chelsea fans and football pundits alike will be watching closely to see if Estevao Willian receives a more regular run of games, or if this stop-start approach continues—potentially impacting one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
