Ruben Amorim Plays Down Transfer Talk On ‘Special’ Antoine Semenyo Ahead Of Man United Clash

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has moved to cool growing transfer speculation around Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, despite describing the Ghana international as a “special player” ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

United welcome Bournemouth as they look to build momentum in a season marked by injuries, tactical reshuffles, and inconsistency. While the Cherries arrive on a difficult run of form, they remain a dangerous opponent under Andoni Iraola, with Semenyo continuing to stand out as one of their biggest attacking threats.

United Focused On Performance, Not Transfers

Much of the pre-match conversation has revolved around Semenyo, who was on Manchester United’s radar during the summer transfer window before the club opted to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha instead. The 25-year-old stayed at Bournemouth and made an impressive start to the campaign, recording six goals and three assists in his first 14 league games.

Although his numbers have slowed slightly in recent weeks, his overall influence remains clear. Semenyo’s performances, combined with a reported £65 million release clause active in January, have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

Despite the noise, Amorim was keen to keep the focus on the fixture rather than recruitment plans.

“They have a special player,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “They have many good players, but they have a special player in Semenyo. He can play on both sides with both feet.”

However, the United boss was quick to shut down any suggestion that his comments hinted at a future move.

“No, it’s not the case,” Amorim added. “There are a lot of special players in the league. What I’m saying is to highlight a top team with top players. I really like the team, and he is a special player.”

Semenyo’s Rise Continues At Bournemouth

Semenyo’s development at Bournemouth has been one of the quieter success stories in recent Premier League seasons. Once viewed as a raw but promising attacker, he has grown into a consistent starter capable of influencing games with his pace, strength, and direct running.

This season, he has already registered nine goal contributions and delivered standout performances against strong opposition, including Liverpool and Fulham. His versatility across the frontline and willingness to take on defenders have made him central to Iraola’s attacking setup.

Recognising his importance, Bournemouth handed Semenyo a long-term contract extension in July 2025, keeping him at the club until 2030. The inclusion of a hefty release clause underlines both his rising value and the expectation of continued interest from bigger clubs.

For now, though, all eyes will be on Old Trafford, where Semenyo has another chance to showcase his quality — even as his future continues to generate headlines.
