Carlo Ancelotti Locked In Talks Over His Future As Brazil Boss Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

Brazilian football is considering a long-term future under Carlo Ancelotti, with the Confederacao Brasileira de Desportos (CBF) reportedly locked in advanced discussions to extend the Italian’s contract beyond the 2026 World Cup in North America. Ancelotti, who became Brazil’s first foreign head coach in May 2025, has impressed officials with his approach and leadership, prompting talks to secure continuity through 2030.

Ancelotti In Talks With CBF

Ancelotti was initially appointed on a one-year deal that runs until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. His arrival marked a historic shift in Brazilian football, as the nation sought a stable hand after a turbulent period under previous manager Dorival Junior.

Since taking charge, Ancelotti has overseen the final stretch of World Cup qualifying, securing Brazil’s spot while managing a series of friendlies to test his squad. The results have been mixed, but Brazil’s record of qualifying for every World Cup remains intact, easing early pressure on the Italian.

CBF president Samir Xaud has publicly confirmed that discussions are ongoing and positive, emphasizing the importance of stability at national team level. He said:

“I see this conversation in a positive light… Everything is there for it to succeed.”

Early Period Of Trial And Error

Ancelotti’s tenure so far has involved experimentation and adaptation. In his first competitive matches, Brazil won two, drew one, and lost one of their final qualifying games. Friendlies against South Korea, Senegal, Japan, and Tunisia provided further insights into squad dynamics, allowing Ancelotti to assess tactical options and build long-term strategies.

Despite mixed results, the federation’s focus remains on building structure and continuity rather than immediate perfection. The Italian’s calm and methodical approach has convinced the CBF that he is the right figure to guide Brazil through the next World Cup cycle and potentially beyond 2030.
