Curtis Jones Opens Up On Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool Future And Reveals How Star Forward Helped Him Through Tough Times

Curtis Jones has lifted the lid on the mood inside the Liverpool dressing room following Mohamed Salah’s recent outburst, insisting the squad remains firmly united behind the Egyptian superstar despite growing uncertainty over his Anfield future.

Salah sent shockwaves through the football world after claiming he had been “thrown under the bus” following Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw at Elland Road, where he once again started on the bench. The comments immediately sparked speculation over a potential January exit, with links to the Saudi Pro League intensifying.

‘We All Love Mo’ – Jones Defends Salah

Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brighton, Jones played down the drama and stressed that Salah still enjoys overwhelming support within the squad.

“We all love Mo. I love Mo,” Jones told Viaplay. “At my hardest times at the club, he was always one of the ones who was there. I could always speak to him. And it’s exactly the same now.”

The midfielder explained that Salah’s comments were personal rather than disruptive, adding that the forward’s intentions were never to unsettle the team.
“Mo’s his own man. He’s got his own opinions. I don’t think his intentions were to affect the team. It was just a personal thing,” Jones said.

Despite starting on the bench again, Salah still made an impact against Brighton, providing the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s second goal. The 33-year-old has now joined up with Egypt ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a tournament that could see him miss up to six Liverpool matches if the Pharaohs go deep.

Salah’s Future Still Unclear

While Salah signed a two-year contract extension earlier this year, uncertainty remains over whether he has already played his final game for the Reds. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has publicly admitted he wants Salah to stay, describing him as “one of the leaders” in the squad.

“I’ve told him I want him to stay,” Van Dijk said. “But I have no control over that. He is one of the leaders and I would love to have him around.”

Jones Reaches Major Liverpool Milestone

The Brighton win also marked a personal milestone for Jones, who made his 200th appearance for Liverpool. The midfielder became the youngest Reds player to reach that figure since Steven Gerrard in 2003.

Jones revealed that Gerrard, who coached him at youth level, played a crucial role in shaping his mentality.
“He was probably the first man to really have a pop at me at the academy,” Jones admitted. “That changed me. Coming from someone I idolised, I knew I had to change.”

The 22-year-old described the journey as surreal, urging young players to appreciate how quickly football careers move.

Unity Remains Strong At Anfield

Despite the noise surrounding Salah’s situation, Jones’ comments paint a picture of a tightly knit Liverpool squad focused on results rather than rumours. Whether Salah remains at Anfield beyond January remains to be seen, but inside the dressing room, respect for the club legend appears undiminished.
