Jamie Carragher Backs Arne Slot Over Mohamed Salah Amid Fan Backlash

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has fired a warning at the club’s “disconnected” online fans amid the ongoing Mohamed Salah saga, insisting that those who truly dedicate their lives to the club back Arne Slot over even the most iconic players.

Salah’s Explosive Outburst and Bench Snub

Mohamed Salah, a modern-day Liverpool legend, has netted 250 goals in eight years, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League, four Golden Boots, and three PFA Player of the Year awards.

However, the Egyptian superstar recently accused Liverpool of throwing him under the bus, citing a breakdown in his working relationship with manager Arne Slot. Slot dropped Salah for a Champions League clash with Inter Milan, a move that many fans at the San Siro supported with chants backing the Dutch tactician.

Carragher’s Take: Club Over Individual

Writing for The Telegraph, Carragher stressed that true fans prioritize the manager over even star players:

“In a choice between a title-winning Anfield manager and a multi-title-winning footballer, the coach wins every time. The relationship between a successful Liverpool boss and the Kop is, through my eyes at least, unique.”

Carragher highlighted that Slot’s face was added to a banner celebrating Liverpool’s most revered managers after just 18 months, showing the fans’ trust in his leadership.

Disconnected Online Fans vs. True Supporters

Carragher argued that Liverpool’s online fanbase is out of touch with the club’s atmosphere and values, saying:

“There is a newer generation of supporters who follow players more than a club… some would have happily seen Liverpool lose to increase the prospects of Salah staying and Slot leaving.”

He emphasized that the issue goes beyond the manager vs. player debate, touching on what Liverpool stands for:

“They see the manager as the embodiment of their values… Once that connection is established – and Slot secured his in his first year – the bond is reinforced when someone threatens it.”

For the die-hard supporters, Carragher concluded, Slot remains the ace up Liverpool’s sleeve, a Premier League-winning manager who embodies the club’s ethos.
