Jazza Dickens Celebrates Becoming WBA Super-Featherweight Champion
Liverpool’s Jazza Dickens has been officially upgraded to WBA super-featherweight champion after Lamont Roach was stripped of the title.
Roach, the American boxer who had won the belt in 2023 and defended it once in 2024, had his last two fights in different weight classes—lightweight and light-welterweight—both ending in majority draws.
Dickens, 34, last fought in July 2025, stopping Russia’s Albert Batyrgaziev in the fourth round to claim the WBA interim belt. Reflecting on his new status, Dickens said,
“A lifetime of hard work is starting to pay off. Huge thanks to all the people who’ve put me in this position.”
Confirmation from the WBA is currently pending, but this upgrade makes Dickens Britain’s fourth reigning male world champion, joining Nick Ball, Lewis Crocker, and Fabio Wardley.
Dickens is set to face undefeated Japanese super-featherweight Hayato Tsutsumi in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 27 December, marking his first defence as full WBA champion.
Record: 36 wins, 5 losses, with 15 wins inside the distance
Notable losses: To Guillermo Rigondeaux (WBA super-bantamweight champion, 2016) and Kid Galahad (IBF featherweight title, 2021)
Weight classes: Competed across three, including British champion at super-bantamweight and European champion at featherweight
Dickens’ journey reflects years of dedication across multiple weight divisions, and the Liverpool fighter now has a golden opportunity to cement his legacy as one of Britain’s premier boxing talents.
