Kylian Mbappe Backed To Break Ronaldo Record But Warned ‘Nobody Will Surpass Cristiano’ At Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe is being tipped to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most goals in a calendar year for Real Madrid, but the French superstar has been reminded that “nobody will surpass Cristiano” when it comes to defining the club’s GOAT status.

The World Cup winner joined the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 as a free agent. After a debut season that yielded 44 goals across all competitions, Mbappe has continued his fine form this term, netting 25 goals in just 20 appearances for Los Blancos.

The Ronaldo Record

Portuguese legend Ronaldo hit 59 goals for Real in 2013, a mark that Mbappe is currently just four goals shy of surpassing. Club legend Guti told AS that Mbappe is in “an incredible version,” adding:

“Thanks to him, they win matches, and that makes him a leader within the team. Kylian must continue on this path to bring more players along and see Real Madrid become champions.”

Mbappe vs. Cristiano Ronaldo Legacy

Pressed on whether Mbappe could ever eclipse Ronaldo’s achievements, Guti was clear:

“No one will ever surpass Cristiano. He’s a player who has defined an era at Real Madrid and in football because of his consistency. That’s the most important thing for any player who wants to dethrone Cristiano and [Lionel] Messi… It’s no use having 10 good games and then not showing up when it matters. Those two always delivered. That’s the challenge facing Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, or anyone else who wants to get close to them.”

Team Reliance And Collective Performance

Guti also warned that Real Madrid are becoming over-reliant on Mbappe, admitting that the team’s collective performance suffers when he has an off day.

“It shouldn’t be like this. Real Madrid has some fantastic players: Vinicius, Bellingham… They can and should score a lot of goals. It’s true they contribute to the team’s play, but Real Madrid shouldn’t rely solely on Mbappe’s goals,” he said.

Bellingham Set To Return To Form

Guti added optimism regarding Jude Bellingham, who has struggled this season after shoulder surgery. The England international has just four goals so far but is expected to regain his form.

“We have to give him time; he’s a fantastic player. He proved it in his first year. When he’s been at 100%, he’s been outstanding,” Guti explained.

With Mbappe chasing history and teammates poised to step up, Real Madrid fans can expect a thrilling end to 2025 and an exciting battle for silverware in 2026.
