Manchester United legend Sir David Beckham has delivered an honest assessment of the Red Devils’ performances under Ruben Amorim, describing their progress as “slow” but noting positive signs. Inconsistency has plagued Manchester United for years, but Beckham believes that steps are being taken to turn things around.

Amorim’s Record At Old Trafford

Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim has been in charge since November 2024, overseeing 56 games with 22 wins and 20 defeats. The club endured a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season and suffered defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The Red Devils also faced an early exit from the Carabao Cup after a shock loss to League Two side Grimsby, raising doubts about Amorim’s future. However, United have shown signs of improvement in recent matches, losing only once in their last seven fixtures and winning four, including a 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace.

Beckham Encouraged By Slow Turnaround

Beckham, attending the recent Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar, spoke to Sky Sports about United’s current campaign.

“I think there are signs of the manager turning things around. He has tweaked a few things and we are coming into a few better results. There’s still a long way to go and there have been a few games where we haven’t been playing as well. But I think we’ve got a good manager there and I think he is changing things slowly.”

The former No.7 noted that while there is room for improvement, the team’s fighting spirit has returned, giving fans hope for the season ahead.

Reflecting On The Derby Defeat To City

Beckham’s recent take is more positive than his reaction in mid-September after a 3-0 derby loss to Manchester City. At the time, he told CBS Sports:

“Being an ex-player, and being a fan of the club, I would hope that they are hurting like we are as fans, and I’m sure they are because they’re professionals. They’re not going out there not wanting to win the game… It was a very hard watch, and like I said, as a United fan, I’m fed up with watching these games and seeing what we’re seeing as fans.”

Beckham’s perspective underscores the patience and cautious optimism required as Amorim works to reshape United’s fortunes.
