How Bad Must Liverpool’s Season Get Before Arne Slot Is Sacked

Liverpool supporters started streaming out of Anfield long before referee Andy Madley blew the final whistle on Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The writing was on the wall from the moment Murillo opened the scoring, and by the time Morgan Gibbs-White netted Forest’s third, frustration had reached boiling point.

The Reds, champions just last season, have now lost six of their 12 Premier League games without ever coming from behind this term—a stark contrast to their 23 points earned from losing positions last year. Slot’s team currently sit perilously close to the relegation zone, with supporters chanting for his sacking by the end of the game.

Alexander Isak: A Problem Exposed
Liverpool’s club-record signing, Alexander Isak, was handed a start ahead of Hugo Ekitike, despite arriving at Anfield in poor physical condition. His 68 minutes were largely ineffective, touching the ball only 14 times and offering nothing in attack. Slot defended the decision, citing the need to get Isak match fit quickly, but the gamble clearly backfired.

Running Out Of Patience
Chairman Tom Werner witnessed the disaster firsthand, seeing the team fail to function cohesively. Slot’s decisions, from starting an unfit striker to mismanaging defensive personnel, have compounded Liverpool’s woes. Joe Gomez, arguably the most versatile option in defence, has barely played, while Ibrahima Konate continues to make high-profile errors, such as gifting Forest the opening corner.

Gomez And Defensive Confusion
With Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong injured, many expected Gomez to step in at right-back, allowing Dominik Szoboszlai to operate in his preferred midfield role. Instead, Szoboszlai was deployed elsewhere and Gomez remained on the bench. Liverpool’s defensive confusion has left the team exposed week after week, highlighting Slot’s struggle to manage personnel effectively.

A Season On The Edge
Saturday’s result raises a crucial question: How bad must Liverpool’s season get before the club acts? With fan anger mounting, poor selections, and costly mistakes piling up, patience appears to be wearing thin. The Champions League clash against PSV on Wednesday provides another test, but unless Slot can urgently reverse the decline, Anfield may be forced to consider drastic action.

Liverpool’s troubles aren’t just tactical—they’re systemic, spanning squad selection, player fitness management, and overall leadership. How long the club allows this slide to continue remains anyone’s guess, but the writing on the wall is becoming increasingly hard to ignore.
