Barcelona’s transfer radar has taken a sharp turn as the Catalan giants reportedly adjust their striker wishlist for the upcoming summer transfer window. What once looked like a straightforward chase for Bundesliga goal machine Serhou Guirassy has now evolved, with a familiar Premier League icon rising to the top of the list — Harry Kane.
Despite Serhou Guirassy’s explosive form and an accessible release clause, Barcelona have cooled their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Reports from the Daily Briefing say his name has been removed from the club’s shortlist altogether.
Guirassy’s release clause — €50 million in January and €65 million in the summer — seemed like a bargain for a player who topped the Champions League scoring charts last season. However, Barcelona reportedly have concerns about his age profile and the long-term value of the investment.
Interestingly, it isn’t younger players Barca are prioritizing.
Instead, they want older, established superstars with proven global presence.
This strategy is not new.
Barcelona made a similar move when they signed Robert Lewandowski at age 34 — and the gamble paid off.
Lewandowski has rewarded the club with 108 goals in 159 matches and two LALIGA titles in three seasons.
The club’s leadership believes experience, star power, and immediate impact are crucial as they rebuild under Hansi Flick.
And that brings us to the new favourite: Harry Kane.
The Bayern Munich striker is reportedly now their number one target.
At 33, Kane fits the exact profile Barcelona desire: established, elite, clinical, and globally marketable.
Rumours suggest Kane has a €65 million release clause in his contract — a figure far more realistic for Barcelona compared to the astronomical fees tied to Erling Haaland or Julian Alvarez.
Kane is currently delivering one of the best seasons of his career with 21 goals already scored, following a European Golden Shoe triumph last year.
According to MD, Barcelona have officially bumped him to the top of their priority list, and the player is open to the move.
This shift signals three major things:
Barcelona want instant impact, not long-term projects
They are avoiding overpriced Premier League options
They aim to replicate the Lewandowski-style transfer model
Harry Kane fits perfectly into that framework — and with Lewandowski’s contract expiring, the timing could be ideal.
