Noah Lyles celebrating at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo
World and Olympic champion Noah Lyles has been named a finalist for the 2025 Male Track Athlete of the Year award, and the American sprinter now believes he can clinch the prestigious accolade. Lyles credits his fiancée, Jamaican athlete Junelle Bromfield, for boosting his confidence after an unforgettable season.
Lyles was selected alongside Kenya’s 800m sensation Emmanuel Wanyonyi, following a standout 2025 campaign that peaked at the World Championships in Tokyo. The voting process consisted of 75% input from the World Athletics Council and World Athletics Family, with the remaining 25% coming from social media.
Initially, Lyles admitted he was in shock at the news. But Bromfield reminded him of his season’s accomplishments, which included:
Two gold medals at the World Championships (200m and 4x100m relay)
Undefeated streak in the 200m
100m bronze medal
Sixth Diamond League 200m title
These achievements also placed him alongside Usain Bolt as only the second male athlete in history to win four consecutive 200m world titles, further solidifying his case for the award.
“Some good points,” Lyles reflected in an interview with wwd.com. “I was just so focused on trying to be in the best shape of my career for Worlds that I didn’t get to look at the season as a whole. Now that I’m looking back, I actually got a pretty good chance of winning this thing.”
If Lyles secures the award on November 30, it will mark his second time winning after previously claiming the honor in 2023, cementing his legacy in both American and world athletics.
