Ruben Amorim Stresses That Even Sir Jim Ratcliffe Can’t Predict Tomorrow In Football

When Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently told The Times that it could take manager Ruben Amorim three years to make a major impact at Old Trafford, it felt like a public show of patience and confidence.

But Amorim — ever the realist — isn’t buying into long-term guarantees in football.

Ahead of United’s 100th clash with bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield, the Portuguese tactician told reporters that while he appreciates Ratcliffe’s words, football doesn’t work on promises or projections.

“It is really good to hear it but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that,” Amorim said. “The most important thing is the next game. Even with owners, you cannot control the next day in football.”

Since joining from Sporting last November, Amorim has struggled to find consistent success in the Premier League. United have managed just 10 wins in 34 league games, haven’t won back-to-back matches, and haven’t been higher than ninth this season.

Still, Amorim insists there’s no sense of panic at Carrington. In fact, he’s more concerned that too much calm from the top could make his players complacent.

“It’s really good to hear it because it helps our fans to understand that leadership knows it will take a while. But I don’t like it because it gives a feeling that we have time to work things out. I don’t want that feeling in our club,” he explained.

For Amorim, the message is clear — pressure is part of life at Manchester United, and every weekend is an opportunity to prove yourself.

So, while Ratcliffe’s vision may stretch three years into the future, Amorim is focused on something much simpler: surviving and succeeding one match at a time.
