Newcastle United star Joelinton has pledged his full support to teammate Nick Woltemade, insisting he will do everything possible to help the towering striker find the back of the net.
With Alexander Isak’s departure leaving a huge gap in the squad, much of Newcastle’s attacking burden now rests on the 6ft 6in German forward. But Joelinton, who has experienced similar pressure in the past, says the team is determined to give Woltemade the best platform to succeed.
“There can be a pressure. I had pressure when I played as No. 9 to bring good performances and help the team,” Joelinton told ChronicleLive. “I don’t have the No. 9 anymore, but I still have pressure to try to help my teammates and create.”
The Brazilian midfielder-turned-forward knows firsthand what it means to carry goal-scoring expectations on Tyneside, having once been the club’s record signing and primary striker.
“Everybody has the pressure — you just have to try to do well and create as many chances as you can,” he added. “We will be looking to do that for Nick Woltemade and give him the best opportunity to score goals. That responsibility lies with everyone, and hopefully Nick will score more and more.”
Newcastle fans are eager to see how Woltemade adapts to the Premier League’s intensity, but with Joelinton’s creativity and work rate behind him, the young striker could be poised for a breakthrough season.
