Inquest Into The Death Of Former Boxer Ricky Hatton Opens And Adjourns

The inquest into the tragic death of former world champion Ricky Hatton has officially opened and been adjourned at South Manchester Coroner’s Court in Stockport.

The 46-year-old boxing icon, affectionately known as “The Hitman,” was found dead at his home in Hyde on 14 September. Reports from the inquest revealed that Hatton was discovered by his longtime manager, Paul Speak, who had arrived to pick him up for a scheduled flight to Dubai.

According to Alison Catlow of Greater Manchester Police, Hatton was last seen by his family on 12 September and appeared to be in good spirits. However, he failed to attend an event the following day, prompting concern among those close to him.

Senior coroner Alison Mutch stated that the final cause of death is still pending, though initial indications suggest it was hanging.

A full inquest has been set for 20 March, where more details surrounding the circumstances of Hatton’s death will be revealed.

A Beloved Figure In British Boxing

Ricky Hatton was not just a fighter — he was a national hero. Known for his fearless style and connection with fans, Hatton captured world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, and built one of the most passionate fanbases in British sports history.

His legendary 2007 bout with Floyd Mayweather saw more than 30,000 British fans travel to Las Vegas, showcasing his unmatched popularity. Following his passing, tributes flooded in from across the boxing world.

Boxer Amir Khan described Hatton as “one of Britain’s greatest,” while Tyson Fury hailed him as a “legend.”

Last week, thousands lined the streets of Manchester to pay their final respects during Hatton’s funeral procession — a fitting farewell for “The Saint of Manchester.”
