Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has lavished praise on Moises Caicedo, rating him a complete footballer after his commanding display against Liverpool in the Premier League.
The Blues secured a narrow but vital 2-1 victory over last season’s league winners, with Caicedo playing a central role in the triumph.
The Ecuadorian midfielder opened the scoring with a thunderous strike from outside the box, showcasing his growing attacking threat. Although Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool in the second half, Chelsea weren’t done yet. In dramatic fashion, Willian Estevao netted a 95th-minute winner to seal all three points for the Blues.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel couldn’t hide his admiration for Caicedo’s all-round abilities:
“There is no midfield player right now that can give everything that Caicedo gives Chelsea,” the Super Eagles legend said. “He’s absolutely magnificent. Breaking up plays, setting up plays, he’s first to everything, aggressive, and he’s a leader as well. He’s a complete football player.”
Mikel also pointed to Caicedo’s evolving attacking contributions:
“He’s chipping in now with goals, taking shots from outside the box. He’s worth every penny we paid for him.”
Chelsea head into the international break sitting five points behind league leaders Arsenal and four points behind Liverpool. With Caicedo in this kind of form, the Blues will hope to close the gap and mount a serious title challenge in the coming weeks.
