Robert Lewandowski’s Replacement? Hansi Flick Eyes Bundesliga Star As Joan Laporta Pushes For Bigger Name

Barcelona are gearing up for another transfer tug-of-war behind the scenes. Manager Hansi Flick is reportedly eager to bring in Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy as the long-term heir to Robert Lewandowski, but club president Joan Laporta has different ideas.

Flick’s Pick – Why Guirassy?

Since arriving at Dortmund from Stuttgart, Guirassy has been nothing short of sensational. The Guinea international scored 34 goals and 6 assists in the 2024/25 season, and he’s wasted no time this term either, already netting nine goals with one assist.

For Flick, the logic is simple: Guirassy is clinical, athletic, and proven in the Bundesliga. He could be the perfect piece to lead Barça’s attack once Lewandowski eventually hangs up his boots.

Laporta Wants A Superstar

While Flick is sold on the striker, Laporta isn’t convinced. Reports suggest the president views Guirassy as too “small a name” for Barcelona’s ambitions. Instead, he is keen on landing a higher-profile star — the kind of blockbuster transfer that excites fans and sponsors alike.

This disagreement sets up a potential clash of visions: Flick’s football-first pragmatism against Laporta’s Galáctico-style expectations.

The Numbers Behind The Deal

Guirassy is tied down at Dortmund until 2029 and earns around €9m per season. A deal could reportedly cost €100m (£87m/$115m), although whispers in Germany suggest a €70m release clause exists for clubs outside the Bundesliga. Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has refused to confirm or deny it, leaving the speculation wide open.

What’s Next For Barcelona?

For now, Lewandowski remains the undisputed No.9 at the Camp Nou. But with age catching up, the club must decide:

  • Flick’s choice – a reliable, goalscoring machine like Guirassy.

  • Laporta’s dream – a global superstar with commercial pull.

One thing is certain: Barcelona will be in the striker market sooner rather than later, and the direction they take could shape the club’s future identity.
