PSG Suffer First Ligue 1 Defeat Of The Season As Marseille Edge Rescheduled Clash
Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain fell to their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season, losing 1-0 to rivals Marseille in a heated encounter that was rescheduled due to storm warnings.
A Nightmare Start For PSG
The decisive moment came in the 5th minute when former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd rose highest at the far post to head home from a Mason Greenwood cross. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier misjudged the delivery, gifting Marseille an early lead that they would fiercely defend.
Marseille nearly doubled their advantage soon after, with Amine Gouiri rattling the crossbar, while at the other end, goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli produced a string of key saves to deny Achraf Hakimi and keep PSG at bay.
PSG’s best chance came after the break when Gonçalo Ramos headed over from close range, failing to convert what looked like a certain equaliser.
Ballon d’Or Distractions?
The match was played on the same night as the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, where PSG boss Luis Enrique was crowned Coach of the Year. Injured winger Ousmane Dembélé also stayed behind in the capital to attend the event — where he sensationally picked up the Men’s Ballon d’Or.
After the defeat, Enrique admitted:
“We are not used to losing games.”
Late Drama And Red Card
The clash ended in further controversy when Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi was shown a red card in stoppage time after tensions boiled over on the touchline.
