Rangers Sign Striker Miovski From Girona

Rangers have completed the signing of former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski from Girona for an undisclosed fee, saying his knowledge of the Scottish Premiership will be “a huge advantage”.

The 26-year-old North Macedonia international has signed a four-year contract with the Glasgow club.

Miovski, who becomes the 11th new arrival under head coach Russell Martin, is likely to be in Rangers’ squad for Sunday’s Old Firm derby at home to leaders Celtic.

He told Rangers’ website: “This is a massive club with an incredible history and I am honoured to have the opportunity to be part of it.

“The moment I heard of the interest, I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

Miovski scored 44 goals in 98 appearances for Aberdeen in a two-year spell before being sold to Girona last August.

He signed a four-year contract with the La Liga club, but he made only 16 starts and six substitute appearances, scoring four goals, last season for the side who finished 16th in the Spanish top flight.

The striker, capped 31 times for his country, came off after 43 minutes of their opening 3-1 defeat by Rayo Vallecano and was not in their squad for the 5-0 thrashing by Villarreal that followed.

Rangers were looking for forward additions after selling Hamza Igamane to Lille this week and Martin said: “His movement, intelligence and ability to score goals make him a real asset.

“He knows all about the Scottish Premiership and has a strong track record of performing and contributing in the league, so I am excited to welcome him to our squad.”

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell revealed Miovski had been “tracked closely” by Rangers, has “proven himself as a consistent goalscorer” and that his “knowledge of the Scottish Premiership is a huge advantage”.

Miovski brings big-game record
Rangers know they are getting someone with a proven Premiership record who is potentially entering his peak years.

What they are also getting is a striker who does not hide in big matches.

Rangers have first-hand experience of that. In nine meetings with the Ibrox side, Miovski scored four times. Against Celtic, he netted three times in seven matches.

A combined seven goals in 16 games against the Old Firm is certainly an eye-catching record with Celtic set to visit Ibrox on Sunday.

The 26-year-old also scored in three of his four visits to Hampden with the Dons, including a memorable winner for a 10-man Aberdeen side against Hibernian in the 2023 League Cup semi-finals.

A European record of four goals in seven games makes for impressive reading, too.

Amid a troubling start to the season, Rangers’ summer recruits have faced criticism from fans and pundits for seeming to not have the mentality, or quality, to succeed at the club.

Miovski’s Aberdeen evidence suggests he would thrive off that expectation.
