In Numbers: Barcelona’s Dominant Away Record Under Flick

One of Barcelona’s specialities under Hansi Flick has been their imperious record irrespective of the stadium they play in.

Taking to the field at home or away from Catalonia has barely had any impact on their performance, and it is in fact at home that they have a slightly worse record.

Last season in the league, the Blaugrana recorded 14 wins, three draws and two defeats in their 19 games away from home. The 19 played at Montjuic, meanwhile, yielded 14 wins, one draw and four defeats, making it a tad bit worse than the away record.

In fact, Flick’s side equalled the club’s record of securing 14 wins away from home last season, as has happened before in the 2010-11, 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons when they also reached 14 wins each in La Liga.

Chasing a record

While Barcelona did phenomenally well away from home as a whole last season, they outdid themselves by finishing the season with seven straight wins away from home, with their last disappointment being the controversial 1-1 draw against Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

The run of seven wins on the road was taken to eight with the win over Mallorca last week and is now tied as the club’s fifth-best streak of consecutive wins away from home.

The absolute record for the same stands at 12 wins, which the club achieved across the 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns.

Hitting 14 wins in a row on the road, thus, is far from impossible as it stands, and Flick and Co. will have it on their radar for this season. After all, they are just six games away and can take another step tonight.

Levante, Rayo Vallecano, Real Oviedo, Sevilla, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo are Barcelona’s next six opponents away from home and wins on these nights will take the team to a special record. The big hurdle, quite clearly, will be the first El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.
