The online accommodation platform Airbnb has partnered with Spain’s La Liga to become an official partner of one of the world’s top leagues.
The agreement looks to merge football and travel by creating opportunities for supporters to combine the matchday experience with the local culture of the country.
Football tourists will be encouraged to stay with local hosts for a full immersion into the passion of Spanish football.
Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, Managing Director of Airbnb Marketing Services, SL, said, “This collaboration is the combination of two passions: football, which unites people, and travel. We want fans not only to enjoy matches but also to discover the cultural richness of Spain and create memorable experiences with the hospitality of Airbnb hosts.”
Jorge de la Vega, General Business Director of La Liga, added, “Football is not only experienced inside stadiums but also through the journeys and activities surrounding each match. This collaboration with Airbnb allows us to connect with our fans in new ways, giving them the chance to feel at home wherever they travel to support their team.”
How residents in Barcelona and Valencia, home to two of La Liga’s biggest teams, feel about this announcement is unknown. However, complaints and demonstrations have been increasing as locals feel like their neighbourhoods are being turned into theme parks and that rents are becoming unaffordable.
