The past 48 hours have been quite the rollercoaster as far as Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Barcelona’s relationship is concerned.
The German was recently stripped of his captaincy after he refused to sign a document that would have authorised Barcelona to share his medical report with La Liga.
However, shortly after Ter Stegen was removed from captaincy, the goalkeeper came up with a statement confirming that he is willing to work with Barcelona to settle things.
Ter Stegen reinstated as captain
As a result of ter Stegen’s co-operation, Ter Stegen has now been reinstated as Barcelona’s captain, the club confirmed in a statement.
The Catalans also confirmed that Ter Stegen has finally signed the documents, thus allowing the club to receive his medical report and submit it to La Liga.
“The Club announces that the player Marc-Andre ter Stegen has signed the authorisation necessary for the Club to send La Liga the medical report relating to his surgery,” the statement read.
“The disciplinary case has been closed and the player is captain of the first team once again with immediate effect,” the statement added.
This is a crucial reconciliation step between Ter Stegen and Barcelona, one that could go a long way in helping the Catalans utilise the goalkeeper’s salary to register new signings such as Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford.
Ter Stegen’s future at Barcelona, though, still remain bleak as the goalkeeper has fallen behind Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order.
