“Osimhen Unstoppable In Turkey,” Ex-Chelsea Player Claims
Former Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has spoken highly of compatriot Victor Osimhen even as it remains unclear where the Nigerian striker will play his club football next season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Wanted in Saudi Arabia by Al-Hilal, in Italy by Juventus and in Turkey by Galatasaray, where he excelled on loan last season, Osimhen is spoilt for choice.
However, the Super Eagles striker longs for a move to England where Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested but not particularly keen to sign him.
While Victor Osimhen’s future remains the subject of intense speculation, one thing appears clear: the Nigerian striker’s stock has never been higher.
The Super Eagles forward enjoyed a sensational loan spell at Galatasaray, where he bagged 37 goals and provided eight assists to help the club win both the Turkish Super Lig and the Cup.
New CFR Cluj signing Kenneth Omeruo, who had stints at Kasımpaşa and Alanyaspor, is convinced Osimhen has left an indelible mark in Turkey.
What did Omeruo say of Osimhen?
“He is a great player for Türkiye,” Omeruo said as per GsGazete. “He has a very good character and makes a serious difference.
“Do you know his strengths? Agility, quickness, speed. Osimhen has all of these. There is not a single defender in Türkiye who can stop him. His first and second steps are very quick. His acceleration is very fast.”
Osimhen’s contract with Napoli technically resumes on June 30, and the Serie A side plan to summon him for pre-season medicals on July 14 or 15, pending any late transfer breakthrough, according to TMW.
Although Galatasaray remain keen to retain the 26-year-old and Al-Hilal came close to striking a deal, Osimhen rejected the Saudi move — at least for now.
Juventus are also interested, but any domestic transfer would likely exceed the €75 million release clause reserved for foreign clubs.
Osimhen’s €11 million gross salary poses a significant financial burden for Napoli, who are eager to offload him. With no deal yet in place, the club may resort to a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ allowing the striker to train separately or else include him in the pre-season camp in Trentino as planned.
