Captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Rasheedat Ajibade, has called for the support of fans of the National Team as they look to claim victory in the upcoming 2024 WAFCON tournament.
The 25-year-old scored seven goals and provided two assists in 22 Spanish F Liga games for Atletico De Madrid, and is set to exit the Roji Blancos team next month.
However, Ajibade’s full focus is on Nigeria’s 2024 WAFCON Campaign set to kick-off on the 5th of July in Morocco.
In an interview with Olori Sports, the versatile attacker admitted there’s a weight of expectation on the Super Falcons, but pleaded with Nigerians to throw in their support behind them.
“We expect support from the people in as much as they expect us to win. We want them to support us, and pray for us as much as they can, so we can win this tournament.
“The support will mean a lot and we’ll do our best to make them proud and fly the nation’s flag high,” the ex-FC Robo player said.
Quizzed about how she shoulders the captaincy responsibility of the 11-time African Champions, Rasheedat mentioned the qualities that helps her carry her teammates along.
“Part of the qualities you should have as the team captain is to be patient and to be a good listener to the player’s you’re listening to.
“It’s never easy leading people, not to talk of leading the women’s team as we all know what that’s like, but we have to be patient regardless.
“You must also demonstrate what you want to see in your teammates, be a good example of what you want people to replicate,” the forward concluded.
The Super Falcons’ journey begins with a fascinating clash against Tunisia on the 6th of July before they take on Botswana in Casablanca four days later. Their final group game will be on the 13th of July against Algeria.
