Romania’s FC Rapid 1923 Bucharest has changed its name to Fotbal Club Rapid. The new name of the club will be used officially from the start of the 2025/2026 season in Romania.
One of the most successful clubs in Romania, the club used the name FC Rapid 1923 while it was resolving issues over the IP to the club’s name.
“Starting with the 2025–2026 competitive season, our club will compete in all competitions under the name Fotbal Club Rapid, the full and legitimate form of our name.
“In previous seasons, the club was entered into competitions under the name FC Rapid 1923, used during the period of administrative and legal reconstruction, until the final resolution of disputes regarding the official identity of the Rapid brand.
“This change comes in the context of the fact that, in 2024, the High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively rejected the appeal filed in the cases regarding the rights to the historical “Rapid” trademarks. Thus, the exclusive nature of the use of the current trademark and logo by our club was confirmed”, said a club statement.
“At the same time, several trademarks containing the name “Fotbal Club Rapid” were canceled, unrelated to the club’s current identity, and the validity of the trademarks in the Fotbal Club Rapid portfolio was maintained.
“Adopting the name FC Rapid is more than a simple administrative update – it is a symbolic step that reaffirms the club’s adherence to the values and tradition that began in 1923. Returning to the name Fotbal Club Rapid is a natural and symbolic step, which strengthens the club’s position in the Romanian football landscape and reconfirms the authentic connection between tradition and the present,” added the club.
